The Life and Legacy of
Brutus Galilea Vaughn
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7

His Life...
Brutus Galilea “Leo” Vaughn was born on February 4, 1955 to the late Margaret Virginia Blackmore and the late Eddie Charles “Sonny” Vaughn in Woodville, Mississippi. When his mother moved to New Orleans, he remained with and was reared by his grandparents, the late Pink and Cora Arbuthnot Blackmore, whom he affectionately called “Mama” and “Daddy”. From a child, he was also loved and adored by the Jones family and has remained in close relationship with them.

Leo was baptized at Cage Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. He attended school in Woodville and is a member of the Wilkinson County Training School’s Class of 1973.

As a young adult, Leo was employed as a machine operator for the Southern Lumber Company formerly located in Crosby. His most recent job prior to his retirement in 2020 was a forklift operator with the Netterville Lumber Company of Woodville.

His Legacy...
Leo was joined in matrimony to Mary Bell McGlothin on April 27, 1974. To this union, two children were born. He was very caring and supportive, as evidenced by his love for his family and friends. He was a man of few words...some would say “quiet”. That is, until he became acquainted with you! Then you would get to know the “talkative” and humorous side of him. He was generous in his giving and frequently contributed to multiple charitable causes.

Leo transitioned from his earthly residence on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: Mary Vaughn of Woodville; two daughters - Ja’Net (Quentin) Lollis of Woodville & Kristen (Brian) Dent of Warren, AR; six grandchildren – Missy, Tristan, Ashton, & London Lollis and Jordyn & Ryleigh Dent; two grand-pups - Roscoe and Kobie Dent; one great-grand pup - Destiny Joy Lollis; four brothers - Swane (Yolanda) Blackmore of New Orleans, LA, Steven (Tori) Blackmore of Oakland, CA, Jeffrey Blackmore of Tishomingo, MS, & Eddie Vaughn, Jr of Baton Rouge, LA; a special brother, Dennis Jones, Jr of New Orleans, LA; three sisters - Cora Blackmore Dorsey and Eunice Vaughn, of New Orleans, LA & Katrena Vaughn of Baton Rouge, LA; a special cousin/sister - Priscilla Chisholm Smith of Baton Rouge, LA; and a host of beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, in- laws, other relatives and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; one brother – Lloyd Blackmore; one special sister, Truelove Jones Lollis; two special cousins – Vernon Chisholm and Rosa Chisholm Morgan; several aunts and uncles and other cherished family members and friends.
