The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21b
Carla Michelle Jenkins Davis was the oldest child of the late Mr. Roy Jenkins and Mrs. Mercy Dabney Jenkins-Harvey. She was the granddaughter of the late Mr. Thomas Dabney, Sr. and Mrs. Ella Bruno Dabney and her bonus grandmother, Mrs. Rita Ardoin Dabney of Basile, Louisiana. She was born on December 03, 1968 in Baton Rouge, LA. Carla answered the Master’s call to rest from labor to reward on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at her residence in Woodville, Mississippi, at age 57.
Sister Davis accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized in Basile, LA. Carla truly loved the Lord as she would often sing praises to His Name, especially during her youth and early adult life. She was known for her melodious voice as she was a great soloist. She sang in the church’s choir and blessed many with her rendition of “His Eye Is On The Sparrow and I Know He Watches Over Me.” She enjoyed singing during her family reunions as well.
Carla attended the schools of Evangeline Parishwhere she graduated from high school. She traveled extensively during her lifetime. She had residencesin Baton Rouge; Cartersville, Georgia; and Woodville, Mississippi. Carla was a loving caregiver and nurse to many. She had a great work ethic and enjoyed caring for her clients and patients.
Those left to cherish many fond memories are: Her sons, Cecil Burton, Jr. Carl Thomas Burton, and Lawrence Davis, Jr.; and a loving and devoted daughter, Lawrenda Josette Davis; grandchildren Kaycen Burton, Ray’Ona Mitchelle Scott, Royale Josette Scott, and Kaden Dietrich Jr.; two brothers, Cornelius Dewayne Jenkins and Robert Salandre’Jenkins (Vonda Guidry); two cousins who became adopted sisters, Veda and Neda Bates; two aunts, Daisy D. Barbain (Peter) and Josie D. Major; two Uncles, Oscar Dabney (Patsy); and Joe Dabney; and a host of other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Lawrence Davis; her loving daughter, Lawrencia Mercedez’ Jenkins Scott (Renny), her uncles Herman Dabney and Thomas Dabney, Jr.; two aunts, Barbara Bates, and Edora Dabney; and a first cousin, Irwen Bates. Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find solace in knowing that she is reunited with all her loved ones who welcomed her home.
Carla had a loving spirit. She enjoyed her family, especially her children and her siblings. She brought the noise and excitement to any gathering. To know Carla was to love her, but God loved her best. May she rest in eternal peace.
