Emma J. Newman was born August 13, 1932 in Woodville, MS to the late Edward Sr. and Ella Jenkins, she departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, MS.
Emma J. accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. E.D. Reynolds at the Angola Baptist Church in Woodville, MS. During her service at the Angola Baptist Church, she served as a member of the Sunday school, Deaconess Ministry, and Vice President of the Pastor's Aide Club.
Emma J. dedicated herself to her family and relished her role as a caretaker for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a voice of stability and direction for all who encountered her. She was well known within her community and neighbors on Ford Street. She loved traveling to football games and watching gospel T.V.
Emma J. loved God most of all, and was a faithful servant. She was at Sunday school, morning worship service, and Bible study. She was full of faith and believed in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Emma J. worked hard to provide for her family improvement at Joan of Arc Canning Company (Potato Factory) and AJFC for over 30 years. She was a member of Heroines of Jericho, Court #20 in Woodville, MS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Sr. and Ella Jenkins; four children, Carl Edward Jenkins, Hearl P. Jenkins, Catherine Marie Jenkins, and Glen Edward Jenkins; five siblings, Willie Jenkins, Levi Jenkins, Edward Jenkins, Robert Jenkins, and Shirley Bolden.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, three sons, Tonto Sr. (Suzette) Newman of Prairieville, LA, Orlando Lee Newman of Woodville, MS, and Earnest Terrell (Valerie) Newman of New Roads, LA; four daughters, Bobby (Sylvester) Scott of Baton Rouge, LA, Jerlene Newman, Linda F. (Patrick) Herbert, and Fontel D. Newman, all of Woodville, MS; a loving and caring grandson who was by her side at all times, Deremy (Scooter) Newman; special cousin, MonCree Allen and niece, Ceritha Veals; special nephews, John T. Bolden, Jr., and Clarborne Jenkins; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
