Life and Legacy

A Time To Be Born:
Johnnie B was born May 12, 1936 in Amite County, Mississippi to the late Bessie Bradley and Louis Spears.

A Time To Live:
Johnnie was united in Holy Matrimony to James Packnett on July 25, 1953. To this union nine children were born. After marriage, she joined the Mt. Pleasant B.C. under the leadership of Rev. Robert Tyson during revival in August 1953. Johnnie B served her church faithfully as a member of the mission society, Sunday School teacher, and Usher’s Ministry where she would later become president. She was employed with the William Carter Company for a number of years. She was a very skilled seamstress and quilt maker. She was affectionately known as Mom B.

A Time To Die:
Johnnie departed her earthly life on Monday, January 12, 2026, at UMMC Hospital in Jackson, MS.

A Time To Mourn:
Johnnie leaves to cherish her blessed and loving memories five daughters; Josephine Dunn, Julia (Fulton) Collins, Yvonne Argue, Yelinda and Angelia Packnett. Two sons; Layvester (Mable), and Lee Marvin (Gayna) Packnett. Twenty-two grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Three sisters; Lillian Jackson, Deloris Williams, Diane (Earnest) Williams. Three brothers; John (Geraldine) Anderson, Stewart Anderson, and Sylvester (Brenda) Anderson. Two sisters-in- law; Eula Cotton and Deloris Dillion. One brother-in-law, David Packnett and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie Bradley Anderson and Louis Spears, husband, James Packnett, two sons, James Donnell and Louis Clydell, grandson, Julius JJ, son in law Sim Dunn, Jr, two sisters: Ida Rogers and Helen Anderson along with other relative s and friend.
