Keon "Poop" Bates

The sun rose on the life of Keon “Poop” Bates on August 6, 2009, in McComb, Mississippi, where he was born to his loving mother, Leketsha Bates, at Southwest Regional Medical Center. On May 30, 2026, the sun set on his earthly life, leaving behind a family and community who loved him dearly.

Keon was a student at Wilkinson County High School who brought laughter, energy, and love wherever he went. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially playing video games with his two favorite cousins, Taylor and TiAnn. He could often be found watching YouTube videos, talking on the phone with Mr. Dekembe White, or enjoying a good movie. Keon also loved to sing out loud, never shy about expressing himself through music, and his voice often filled the room with joy. He dreamed of becoming a professional gamer one day or working as a greeter at Walmart, where he could meet and interact with people every day. Keon had a curious mind and was always willing to learn new things. More than anything, he enjoyed being a kid and making memories with the people he loved. His smile, laughter, and unforgettable personality will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Keon was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Charlie Bates and Barbara Ann Bates; his sister, Jhoskesia Bates; his cousins, Enaje Bates, Christopher Smith Jr., and Tyler Brister; and his aunts, Charlitha Bates and Alisha Rogers. Though they departed this life before him, the memories and love they shared with Keon will forever remain a cherished part of his story.

Though his time on earth was far too short, Keon’s life was filled with moments that will forever be treasured by those who loved him. His memory will continue to live on through the stories, laughter, and love he leaves behind.

Keon leaves to cherish his precious memories his mother, Leketsha (Gil) Bates, his aunt, Pamela (Cory) Brister; Tameoka Brown; his uncles, Ro’Derrick (DeGranda) and Demmus Causey; a host of cousins, family members, classmates, and friends; and all those whose lives were touched by his presence.

Though we mourn his passing, we celebrate the life he lived and the joy he brought to so many. The love he shared and the memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Keon will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished
