Nathaniel Smith

Nathaniel “Nate” Smith, Sr. was born on June 10, 1948, in Winnsboro, Louisiana to the late Jake and Rosetta Smith. A man of faith, Nate accepted Christ and lived as a believer throughout his life. He went home to be with his heavenly father on July 7, 2025, at his home in Ferriday, Louisiana.

Nate was a person who never met a stranger and always had a joke to tell and a smile to share. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved his OKC Thunder and New Orleans Saints. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most of his time was spent fishing and enjoying the peace and stillness of the water.

Nate leaves to cherish his memories wife Angela “Maxine” Smith, children Avery Atkins, Tousha (Nate) Chatman, Terrance (Malissa) Atkins, Tia (Kendall) Damond, Nathaniel Smith, Jr. Dyron” DL” Smith, Raven (Kaevyon) McKeel, Kaytlyn Smith, and Kamrin Smith. His brothers Jake Smith, Jr., Joe Smith, Willie Smith, Bobby Smith, Donald Smith and sisters Rosetta Johnson, Mary Louise Williams-Bradley, Avis Denise Sanders. His Uncle Herman Johnson, 16 grandkids, great grandkids, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers I. Q. Smith and Isaac “Badah” Smith.

He will be remembered for his infectious laughter, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family.
